In conclusion, both hypotheses proved to be true. Formula milk had the highest lactose content while the coconut and soy milks had minimal amounts of lactose. It is believed that the formula milk had the highest lactose content in order to give infants the amount of lactose they require for healthy growth. Researchers believe breast milk contains around 7 g/100 mL of lactose which is slightly higher than formula milk. It is theorized that because the coconut and soy milks were not dairy milks, they were not made from dairy products containing lactose which leads to them having little to no lactose content.
